Autoimmune functional medicine.

Functional medicine for autoimmune conditions in Jacksonville and Orange Park. We look for what keeps your immune system stirred up, from the gut to stress to hormones, and build a plan alongside your specialist.

01 — WHAT IT IS

Calm the triggers. Get more good days.

Yes, we work with autoimmune conditions. Meridian's functional medicine team sees patients with Hashimoto's, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune conditions at our Southside Jacksonville and Orange Park offices. We look for the things that keep the immune system stirred up, then build a plan to calm them.

Your specialist manages your diagnosis and medication. We work on the parts that often get less time in a short appointment: the gut, food reactions, stress and cortisol, hormones, sleep, and nutrient levels.

Your first visit runs 45–60 minutes. Bring your diagnosis and recent labs. You leave knowing what we want to test and why.

02 — SYMPTOMS

What living with it can feel like

Fatigue that does not lift
Rest helps for a day, then the heavy, drained feeling comes back.
Flares you cannot predict
Good weeks and bad weeks, with no clear reason for the switch.
Joint pain and stiffness
Aching or swollen joints, often worse in the morning.
Gut trouble
Bloating, food reactions, or bathroom habits that change week to week.
Brain fog
Trouble focusing or finding words on flare days.
Skin and hair changes
Rashes, dry skin, or thinning hair that come and go.
— WHEN TO GET HELP RIGHT AWAY
Call 911 or go to the emergency room for chest pain, trouble breathing, sudden weakness or confusion, or a high fever with a new rash. Call your specialist the same day for a flare that is quickly getting worse.
04 — GOOD TO KNOW

Conditions we see

Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The most common cause of an underactive thyroid. We check thyroid antibodies along with the full thyroid panel.

Lupus. We work alongside your rheumatologist on gut health, food reactions, stress, and nutrients.

Rheumatoid arthritis. Functional medicine for the inflammation drivers, plus chiropractic care and exercise to keep joints moving.

Other autoimmune conditions. Bring your diagnosis and labs to your first visit and we will talk through your options.

Why the gut comes first

Much of the immune system lives around the gut. When digestion is off, food reactions and inflammation often follow.

That is why our protocols start with the gut, then move to the adrenal and stress system, and then to hormones. Each step builds on the one before.

05 — COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions, answered.

Can functional medicine help autoimmune conditions?
Functional medicine looks for what keeps the immune system stirred up: the gut, food reactions, stress and cortisol, hormones, and nutrient levels. We test for those, then build a plan around what we find. The aim is fewer and milder flares and more good days. It works alongside the specialist who manages your condition.
Where can I find autoimmune functional medicine in Jacksonville?
At Meridian Integrative Wellness. Southside Jacksonville: 9770 Old Baymeadows Rd #139, Jacksonville, FL 32256, (904) 379-9412. Orange Park: 1532 Kingsley Ave #102, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 541-4826. Both offices are open Monday through Thursday 9am–7pm and Friday 8am–5pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
Which autoimmune conditions do you work with?
We regularly see Hashimoto's thyroiditis, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis, along with other autoimmune conditions. Bring your diagnosis and your recent labs to your first visit and we will talk through how we can help.
Do I keep seeing my rheumatologist or endocrinologist?
Yes. Keep your specialist and keep taking your medication as prescribed. Medication decisions stay with the doctor who prescribes them. We work alongside that care and are happy to share what we find.
What testing do you use?
It depends on your symptoms. Options include bloodwork with thyroid antibodies and inflammation markers, the Organic Acids Test for gut bacteria and yeast markers, food sensitivity testing, DUTCH hormone testing for cortisol and hormones, and genetic testing.
Why do you start with the gut?
Much of the immune system sits around the gut. Our protocols follow a set order: gut first, then the adrenal and stress system, then hormones. Calming the gut is often where progress starts.
What happens at my first visit?
Your first functional medicine visit runs 45–60 minutes. We go through your history, symptoms, diet, sleep, stress, and past labs, decide which tests make sense, and explain the next step. Established patients can do follow-ups by video.
Does insurance cover it?
Visits may or may not be covered by your plan. Specialized labs such as DUTCH and the Organic Acids Test are usually not covered. In-network status varies by plan. We verify your benefits before your first visit.
