Gut health.

Gut health and functional medicine in Jacksonville, FL. Stop managing symptoms. Find the root cause. Heal the gut — heal the system.

01 — WHAT IT IS

Your gut is talking. Are you listening?

Chronic bloating, IBS, food sensitivities, brain fog, fatigue — these aren't separate problems. They're signals from a digestive system that's struggling. Conventional medicine addresses the symptoms. Functional medicine finds the cause.

At Meridian, we use advanced gut testing, comprehensive case analysis, and targeted functional protocols to identify what's actually wrong and fix it. Not manage it. Fix it.

We address the 5R framework — Remove, Replace, Reinoculate, Repair, and Rebalance — so your gut heals from the inside out, and your whole-body health follows.

02 — SYMPTOMS

Gut conditions we address

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Cramping, bloating, alternating constipation and diarrhea — symptoms that cycle for years without a root cause diagnosis.
Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)
Bacterial imbalance in the small intestine causing bloating, gas, and nutrient malabsorption. Frequently misdiagnosed as IBS.
Leaky Gut Syndrome
Increased intestinal permeability allowing undigested proteins and pathogens into the bloodstream — driving systemic inflammation.
Food Sensitivities
Immune responses to specific foods that cause delayed symptoms — often missed by standard allergy testing.
Chronic Bloating & Gas
Persistent digestive discomfort that signals underlying dysbiosis, enzyme deficiency, or structural dysfunction.
Chronic Fatigue Linked to Gut
The gut-brain axis means that gut dysfunction directly impairs energy production, sleep quality, and cognitive function.
03 — HOW WE TREAT IT

Our functional approach to gut health.

01
Comprehensive testing
Organic acid testing to map what is actually growing in your gut, with bloodwork alongside it — not just a standard panel. We find what conventional testing routinely misses.
02
Root cause identification
Every symptom has a driver. We trace bloating, IBS, and fatigue back to the actual cause — pathogens, dysbiosis, enzyme deficiency, motility issues, or mucosal damage. Specifically.
03
Targeted protocol
Antimicrobial herbs, probiotics, digestive enzymes, gut lining support, dietary modifications — matched to your test results. Not a generic elimination diet that may not apply to you.
04
Rebuild and restore
Once we've cleared pathogens and healed the lining, we rebuild a diverse, resilient microbiome. That's the foundation that keeps everything working long-term.
04 — GOOD TO KNOW

Leaky gut, acid reflux, food sensitivities, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, SIBO, SIFO, irritable bowel syndrome, C. difficile, and oxalation.

05 — COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions, answered.

How is functional medicine different from a gastroenterologist?
Gastroenterologists are essential for structural diagnosis and ruling out serious disease — we refer when that's needed. Functional medicine goes further. We investigate the microbial, inflammatory, and nutritional drivers of gut dysfunction. Not just what it looks like on a scope, but why it's not working.
What tests do you use for gut health assessment?
Our primary test is organic acid testing — a urine panel that reads the metabolic by-products of the bacteria and yeast living in your gut, distinguishing bacterial overgrowth from yeast and from oxalate handling. We run bloodwork alongside it. We also use DUTCH hormone panel testing, organic acids testing, and food sensitivity panels depending on your symptoms and history.
How long does a gut health protocol take?
Most gut healing protocols run 3–6 months. The four-phase approach — Remove, Replace, Reinoculate, Repair — takes time done right. We set realistic milestones and use repeat testing to track actual progress, not just symptoms.
Can gut issues cause symptoms outside the digestive system?
Absolutely — and this is one of the most underappreciated things in functional medicine. The gut houses 70% of the immune system and produces a significant chunk of the body's neurotransmitters. Leaky gut and dysbiosis show up as skin conditions, brain fog, mood disorders, joint pain, fatigue, autoimmune flares. The gut is rarely just a gut problem.
Does Meridian treat SIBO and SIFO in Jacksonville?
Yes. We use organic acid testing to identify small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and fungal overgrowth (SIFO), then build targeted antimicrobial and gut-restoration protocols based on your specific results.
