Chronic pain.

Yes, a chiropractor can help with chronic pain. We find what keeps your back, neck, or joint pain coming back and build a drug-free plan around it. Southside Jacksonville and Orange Park, same-day exams.

01 — WHAT IT IS

Stop managing it. Start fixing it.

Yes, we treat chronic pain in Jacksonville. At our Southside Jacksonville and Orange Park offices we see people with back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and joint pain that has hung on for months or years. We find what keeps it coming back, then treat it with chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, dry needling, shockwave therapy, and guided rehab exercise.

No drugs, no surgery, and no downtime. You can go back to work the same day.

Chronic pain is pain that has lasted longer than about three months. Most of the time it is not one problem. It is a stiff joint, a tired disc, weak support muscles, and a body that has spent years working around them. Pain pills quiet the signal. They do not change any of those things. That is why the pain keeps returning the moment you stop.

02 — SYMPTOMS

What chronic pain looks like

Back pain that keeps coming back
It eases for a few weeks, then one bad night of sleep or one heavy lift and you are right back where you started.
A stiff, sore neck most days
Tight by the end of the workday, headaches that start at the base of the skull, and a neck that never quite loosens.
Pain that moves around
Low back one month, hip the next, then the shoulder. Usually a sign the body is compensating somewhere.
Sciatica that flares
Burning or aching down the leg that settles, then returns every time you sit too long or drive too far.
Achy joints
Hips, knees, and shoulders that are worse in the morning and after a long day on your feet.
Pain that wrecks your sleep
Waking up sore, waking up often, and starting every day already tired.
— WHEN TO GET HELP RIGHT AWAY
Go to the emergency room for back pain with numbness in the groin or inner thighs, new loss of bladder or bowel control, weakness in a leg that is getting worse, or pain after a serious fall or crash. Call 911 for chest pain or sudden weakness on one side of the body.
04 — GOOD TO KNOW

Why the pain keeps coming back

When a joint stops moving well, the muscles around it tighten to protect it. Tight muscles pull on the joint and keep it stuck. Other joints pick up the slack and start to hurt too. Over months that becomes a loop.

Rest, heat, and pills can calm a flare. They do not break the loop. Breaking it takes three things at once: getting the stuck joints moving, releasing the muscles that have been guarding them, and building enough strength that the loop does not restart.

That is how we build every chronic pain plan. Not one tool. The right combination for what your exam shows.

Common chronic pain we treat

Low back pain and sciatica, including pain from a disc, spinal stenosis, or the SI joint.

Neck pain and headaches that start in the neck, often from long days at a desk or behind the wheel.

Shoulder, hip, and knee pain, including tendon problems and arthritis in the joints.

Old injuries that never fully healed, from a car accident, a sport, or a job.

Widespread muscle pain and stiffness. If fatigue, poor sleep, or gut trouble come with it, our functional medicine team can look at what is happening inside the body too.

Why people choose chiropractic first

It is drug-free and non-surgical, with no downtime. Most people go straight back to work.

It is a conservative option. Chiropractors pay a fraction of what surgeons pay for malpractice insurance, and insurers set those prices from real claims data.

It usually costs less over time than repeat injections, imaging, and prescriptions, and it gives you something to do about the pain yourself.

What your first visit looks like

About 45 minutes, start to finish.

We go over when the pain started, what makes it worse, and everything you have already tried.

We test movement, strength, reflexes, and the specific joints and muscles involved.

We explain what we think is driving the pain and what we recommend, including how often and for how long.

If imaging makes sense, we tell you why and refer you.

05 — COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions, answered.

Can a chiropractor help with chronic pain?
Yes. Chronic back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and joint pain are among the most common reasons people see a chiropractor. At Meridian we start with a full exam to find what keeps the pain coming back, then treat it with chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, dry needling, shockwave therapy, and guided rehab exercise. No drugs and no surgery.
Where can I find a chiropractor for chronic pain in Jacksonville?
Meridian Integrative Wellness has two offices. Southside Jacksonville: 9770 Old Baymeadows Rd #139, Jacksonville, FL 32256, (904) 379-9412. Same-day appointments are available.
I have had this pain for years. Is it too late?
No. Many of our patients come in after years of pain and after trying medication, injections, or other care. Long-standing pain usually has more than one driver, such as a stiff joint, a disc, weak support muscles, and poor sleep. We look at all of them and build a plan around what we find.
What happens at my first visit?
Plan on about 45 minutes. We go over your history and what you have tried, then test how you move, your strength, reflexes, and the joints and muscles involved. We refer for imaging when it is needed. You leave knowing what we think is driving the pain and what we recommend.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on how long the pain has been there and what is driving it. Early visits are closer together. We re-check your progress about every 30 days and adjust the plan based on how you are doing and what you tell us.
Does insurance cover chiropractic care for chronic pain?
We work with Florida Blue, Cigna, Humana, Medicare, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, VA Community Care Network. In-network status varies by plan. We verify your benefits before your first visit.
Do I have to stop seeing my other doctors?
No. Our care works alongside your physician and any specialist you see. Keep taking prescribed medication unless your prescriber changes it. We are happy to share what we find with your doctor.
When is back or neck pain an emergency?
Go to the emergency room for back pain with numbness in the groin or inner thighs, new loss of bladder or bowel control, weakness in a leg that is getting worse, or pain after a serious fall or crash. Call 911 for chest pain or sudden weakness on one side of the body.
